In the magazine The New Yorker, George Packer falsely wrote, "During the worst period of violence in Iraq, the Senate Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell, of Kentucky, implores the President to withdraw some troops in order to give the Republicans a boost before the 2006 midterms."
Packer, G. (2010, November 29). Dead Certain: The Presidential memoirs of George W. Bush. New Yorker, 86(4382). Retrieved October 8, 2016, from http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2010/11/29/dead-certain-george-packer
(Vol. 86, No. 38)
McConnell was not Majority Leader until 2015.
The editor of the New Yorker is David Remnick.
